Turquoise

This week's Take A Word challenge - turquoise - was especially fun because it's one of my favorite colors.

I scanned the main figure from a vintage Asian advertising print collection.  The Mandarin character in the corner translates as Serenity.

The perfect occasion to play homage to the great surrealist - Rene Magritte.

Man-In-The-Moon-About-Town

The challenge was a  Moon Man theme and it was just too hard to resist dressing this natty fellow up for his big night on (and over) the town!

A Mouse In The House!

Another fun theme from The Three Muses. The challenge is to create a journal page with the theme I'm Scared Of .....

Well, anyone who knows me knows that I'm mortified by the thought of  - EEEEEK! - a mouse in the house.  Oh my!

Thanks for dropping by.  I look forward to seeing what creeps you all out!

Art Lesson

The theme for the Take A Word Challenge this week is art.

The first thing I thought of was Art Class.  Remember learning primary, complementary, and contrasting colors?

ROY G BIV, anyone?

Fire

For this week's Sunday Postcard Art Challenge - Fire.

This central figures are from a work by German artist Charlotte Salomon.  Sadly, she did not survive the fire.  Her work, however, lives on.

An excerpt from Wikipedia about the artist:

Charlotte Salomon (April 16, 1917 – October 10, 1943) was a German-Jewish artist born in Berlin. She is primarily remembered as the creator of an autobiographical series of paintings Leben? oder Theater?: EinSingspiel consisting of 769 individual works painted between 1941 and 1943 in the south of France, while Salomon was in hiding from the Nazis

In October 1943 she was captured and deported to Auschwitz, where she and her unborn child were gassed to death soon after her arrival.

Beauty

For this weeks's Beauty challenge at Take A Word

What can I say?

For me, a just-off-the-grill charbroiled burger is a thing of beauty.  As you can see, I indulge in beauty whenever and wherever I can.

Nancy Drew

For the Take A Word Black & White challenge.

I amassed an extensive Nancy Drew Mystery collection in my childhood, thanks to my mom.  When I saved enough money to buy a book, she matched the purchase price so I always got two!  I'm left with wonderful memories of painstakingly choosing the new books.

Thanks Mama!

Men in Hats

A fun theme for this week's Sunday Postcard Art Challenge.
